About Us

We are a growing bellringing band that ring at the St. Nicholas Church in Hurst. The band is part of the Loddon Ringing Hub within Sonning Deanery Branch of the Oxford Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers.

We ring for practice on Monday evenings as well as for Sunday Services and other occasions.

Regular ringing at Hurst was restarted in 2018 as a new group of regular learners were recruited for the Ringing Remembers project to commemorate the centenary of Armistice Day, and in memory of the local ringers who lost their lives in the First World War.

Why “Normal for Hurst”? Because this was a running joke about the standard of ringing at the tower at the restart by the relatively inexperienced band.

It has taken time to build the band and the membership has changed although some of the original members are still ringing and progressing. Ringing is a hobby for a lifetime, but can be started at any age. As usual, younger people tend to learn faster, but there is room for everyone and all abilities.
